Mr. Ashes

Mr. Ashes is my 10 month old kitty. He looks like a pile of ashes hence the name. He is slightly different from other kitty's I have owned. First of all he is really small. He looks like he is about 5 months old rather than 10. He was pretty sickly when we first got him, but we helped nurse him back to health. The vet says he is just tiny. He also has a "silent" meow...it almost sounds like he is hissing at you when he meows. Now he does have a regular meow but I think he chooses when he wants to use it...kinda stubborn like that. He meows just fine when we have food :) He also has vampire teeth...they stick out past his bottom lip when his mouth is closed...I wish I could get a picture of that but he hasn't allowed me to so far. So Mr. Ashes is a character. He plays when he feels like it, sleeps a lot, and has lately decided he is going to sleep right next to me in the bed, therefore wedging me between him and my hubby. That's not really that cool. So guess what? Mr. Ashes is going to be put at the foot of the bed tonight. Will he stay? Probably not, but it's worth a shot. So I thought I'd share a few pictures of Mr. Ashes. I take a lot of them, but I can't get him to do anything cool yet :) Maybe someday.

He's ferocious!! LOL!

Random Friday

Just some random thoughts for Friday.

1. I never knew so much went into house hunting. We are looking into building one and yesterday afternoon we are talking with our realtor and the realtor who works for the builder of the subdivision and seriously we are standing in the road and the one working for the builder says "Look at these two house's roofs...which color do you prefer?" It blew my mind. But seriously we are leaving this house building thing in God's hands. It is overwhelming!!

2. I sometimes wish I was a party planner, instead of a teacher. I see and hear about so many creative ideas and I wish I was doing that. It'd be so much fun. I am getting kind of worried because I sometimes wonder do I want to teach for 20 something more years?

3. What can I get my mom and brother for their birthday? My mom's was Wed and I sent some flowers to her work, and then my brother's is Saturday...we are all having dinner together Sat night. I am thinking either the movie "Invincible" or "Gridiron Gang" for my brother since he is such a football fanatic, but I am clueless to my mom. Any ideas?

4. I wish I saw my friends more. All of my friends.

5. I am really ready for spring. I want to buy cute spring clothes...something I am in desperate need of.

6. I am going to Pancake Day on Saturday morning at Decatur High School. This used to be an annual tradition for the Hancock household, and this will be the first one ever that Wes gets to go to. We haven't been since probably my senior year of high school. I'm super excited. I love pancakes.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Blue Man Group

What an awesome experience. Last night me and Wes saw the Blue Man Group here is Huntsville. My mom had gotten us tickets for Christmas. Back when I went to Las Vegas in 2003 me and mom had tried to get tickets to see them there at the Venetian but you have to get tickets to all the top shows like a month in advance...so they were of course sold out. The show we saw last night is different from their Vegas show but it was still sooo amazing. These men can do some amazing things with PVC pipe and other building contraptions. The whole show was based on how to be a rockstar, and it was very enteretaining. It was also LOUD!! My ears were ringing for about an hour after we left the VBC. I took tons of pictures...we were in the mezzanine section so they are good pics but not close up. I'm going to post a few.

Here is me and Wes waiting for it to begin..gotta love self portraits :)

This is the pipe organ that they played on...it is made out of PVC pipe.

These little contraptions shot loads of streamers out of them. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera ready in time when they did that because I wasn't expecting it.

Here are the Blue Men.

This was a gigantic sling shot they were using to sling stuff back to the back audience members.

It was a great show, and if any of you get out to Vegas I'd highly recommend them. One more litle note...for those of you that is looking to try out a new little Mexican restaurant in Decatur called Maria Bonitas. It is in downtown where the old Court Street Cafe used to be. We went there Saturday night for a friend of mine's b'day dinner and it was HORRIBLE!! Horrible food, horrible service. First of all the prices are absolutely ridiculous for what you are getting. Second of all it took over an hour to get the food then it wasn't the right food. Yes we had a party of ten, BUT there were other diners around us with like 2 people and their's wasn't coming out right either. Then came the checks....everyone's was seperate except me and Wes'...shouldn't have been to difficult, but we kept getting mixed up tickets. On the third try the waiter (who I might add hardly checked on us the entire time then comes to us at check time and says I'm sorry I haven't been very attentive of you, but you know some other things just come up....um yeah way to earn that tip buddy) comes over and says that he doesn't want to ask the girl to split them up again because she doesn't speak English and she is getting really confused and angry...oh my lord!! I mean come on don't you think they need someone who can speak English to take care of something as important as the bill? I would think so. Well anyway the manager came over and he was much more apologetic. One guy at our table got his entire dinner free, me and wes got our drinks for free, and I think a couple of others did to. But you know what? The waiter did not get a single tip from any of us...including my hubby who has the softest heart with stuff like that...usually no matter how horrible the service he'll still give them a little bit. Not this time :) So that's my Non recommendation to ya'll.
Happy Tuesday!!

Happy POST Valentine's Day!

I hope everyone had a nice day yesterday...mine was pretty good. I took off work, so I avoided the 22 5 year old's sugar happy V'day party and left it to a sub and my assistant :) When I got to work this morning my desk was covered in Valentines, and an assistant telling me to never do that again lol :) Ah well just have to get through today and tomorrow, then we have a three day weekend because Monday is President's day and by the graces of education I am free free free for one whole day :) As for the rest of my Valentine's day it was pretty great. I enjoyed a day of just doing what I wanted until Wes came home, then we had a candlelight dinner with his favorite and easy dish...spaghetti and meatballs and garlic bread. I had gotten him a cookie cake for dessert. Then we watched tv, and spent an evening of quiet (Perfect!). He brought home a dozen very pretty peach roses, and then I also got a radio that hangs inside my shower, some memory foam slippers that are wonderous on my feet, some really cool hydrating socks that are supposed to help your feet stay hydrated ( haven't tried them yet, will let you know if they work), a cute soft cuddly teddy bear that is holding a heart that says I love you, and my all time fave candy...Sour Patch Kids! He did good, but he spent more than our limit...(we are saving money because hopefully ::keeping fingers crossed:: we are building a house this summer). I got him a Tennesse team shirt and some Stewie (from Family Guy) V'day boxers and some Hershey's minatures. I feel kinda bad because I skipped my grad school class last night but I just couldn't stand the thought of sitting through the Ethics of Education on Valentines Day...so I skipped :) I hope everyone else had a great day!
Only two more days of the week...hope they all go by super fast!! Happy Thursday!!

Insomnia Sucks!!!!

I would like to know when I became an insomniac? I think I can actually say it started about 3 months ago. It sucks! I go to sleep fine but then I wake up around 2 or 3 and can't go back to sleep!! Then I get really sleepy around 6 when guess what? I have to get up then!! It is really affecting my whole "me" I am tired a lot, have absolutely no energy and I feel blah...definitely not myself. Also I am feeling so "unhealthy" right now!! I am to the point that I am ready to talk to a Dr. about this. Case and point it is 5:47am and I have been wide awake since 3am, but before that I woke up on the hour every hour from 10pm on. Fortunately I am off work today because I have an appointment this afternoon and I had the time to take off so I thought why not? So I am sleepy now, Wes will be up in about 10min, I will send him off to work, and then I am going to take my insomniatic(is that a word?) self back to bed....Good day!!!

Tales of Macy and Other Things

Ok for everyone who doesn't know...I am very very proud of my neice Macy!! I take pictures and talk about her all the time :) This past Friday night we had "family time" at my parent's house and Macy was definitely our entertainment. First of all I have never seen a child so obsessed about something like she is about Dora the Explorer. I am serious. Anytime and I mean anytime she see's something with Dora on it she first stares at her then all of the sudden she starts running in place clapping her hands and her mouth is open in a big "O" shape and she makes sounds like she is hyperventilating. It is HILARIOUS!! I keep trying to get pictures of it but she does it so fast that so far my camera is missing it. Me and Wes gave her the Dora Valentine's Day book and she can actually flip through a book like a adult would..she has awesome motor skills. One page had the backpack on it and she starts singing the backpack song in her little toddler voice..so precious. But she has this really wierd but funny way of getting herself asleep...she makes this humping motion...my brother is kinda embarrassed by it but I find it somewhat amusing :) Kid's really do funny things. I have some pictures of course.

Here she is playing with Nana.

Here she is being a poser baby.

Messing with her Daddy's face!
I love that little girl :) Ok so on to other things! Saturday we took Wes' little brother Zach out to eat for his 19th birthday. He is a freshman at Auburn (WAR EAGLE!) and he is majoring in chemical engineering and he's single...anyone know of a single chickadee around his age? :) Now I am playing matchmaker lol. Then Sunday we went to church and then went house hunting...there is a new neighborhood being built in Harvest and we are looking to go that route this summer...that is if all things go as we would like. Wes has applied for his dream job at Brown's Ferry and we are keeping our fingers crossed and sending lots of prayers towards heaven. Finally my last thought for the day: Congratulations are in order for one of my really good friends Lauren Parker who got engaged this weekend. Lauren and I met when we both worked at Sam's in Florence and I am super excited for her!!

Happy Monday to all!!

Hey all!

I have finally joined the blogging world. Just a quick reference as to why I chose this title for my blog. A friend of mine and Wes' (the one who actually got the ball rolling on our relationship) named Blake always had nicknames for his buddies. Well as you might guess Western was Wes' and Candiland was mine, so after considering different titles I finally decided on this one. I don't really know what I might post on here, it might be boring to anyone but me. But a lot of my old high school friends have blogs and I really have found it to be fun and interesting to keep up with the going on's of everyone and I have also found new people's blogs through them. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend and stays warm because it is cold outside :) I will be spending my evening in the company of my family and my gorgeous neice Macy ( here she is with my best friend

Jennifer). Then tomorrow we are taking Wes' little brother Zach out to dinner for his 19th birthday. So we have a busy weekend ahead of us :)
