What National Strange Holiday is your Birthday?

This is an interesting link that one of my cousins posted on MySpace. I searched it and found out that the National Strange Holiday celebrated on my birthday June 23 is....
National Pink Day!!! How appropriate since pink is my favorite color :)
Wes' birthday is December 8th and his strange holiday is Take it in the Ear Day! I couldn't help but laugh at loud at that one hehe :) Then for funsies I checked out our anniversary (July 1) and it had two strange holidays. 1. Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day and 2. Build a Scarecrow Day.
Very interesting stuff. Check it out and if ya want let me know what your strange holiday is.
Here is the link.

Happy Hump Day!

Just some randomness on my mind :)
*Leaving for the beach on Friday! Whoot Whoot! I am ready to just lay on the sand and listen to the ocean!
*Opening game for college football is Saturday. I am so freakin excited. I love this time of year! We are going down to Auburn on the 8th to watch them play South Florida.
*So who saw the clip about Miss South Carolina on the Miss Teen USA pageant? If not google it. I don't know whether to laugh or feel sorry for her. Honestly I can understand how she could get so bungled up...but at the same time her answer is just hilarious. Adding BIG words, and random geography doesn't = intelligence.
*Who wants to see a couple of pics of my house?

This is taken from down on the street in front. It is on a hill...don't you know Wes loves having to mow it :)

This is our master. Right now the colors are jewel tones..but I am about to change it to a pale blue with some chocolate accents. It is on the house wish list.

We have tray ceilings in our living room and our master. This is the one from our master.

One view of the living room.

Another view of the living room with Wes waving "Hi!"

A partial view of the cooking side of the kitchen.
I will take more later. We are going to be finishing the painting in the spring. Both of us are just to busy and tired to fool with it for right now. Also coming in the spring...new landscaping!
*Why or Why in grad school do you have to write so many papers? I mean really? What's the point?
*Ok so I have a movie recommendation. Two actually. The Devil Wears Prada...I am now wanting to read the book. And Shooter. Both really good.
Happy Wednesday ladies! Halfway there and it's a three day weekend!

Friday Ramblings

Hey guys it Friday! TGIF!! Yesterday I started my grad classes...yikes I am going to have a tough semester :) I also think I made a mistake yesterday...you know how it has been like 100 plus degrees? Well it's no big deal to me if I don't eat breakfast and usually lunch just consists of like crackers or a piece of fruit or something. This is just because during the day I am not usually that hungry. I always eat dinner. I know it's not exactly healthy to do that though. Well yesterday I was in class all day and by the time I got home yesterday afternoon all I had had was a package of crackers, one of those fruit bowl things that Dole makes and a bottle of water. I felt horrible. I think it was combined with no food and not enough water and then the heat. My stomach was upset and I literally felt like a Mack truck had ran me down. So my afternoon/evening was wasted because I didn't want to get off the couch. I am feeling a little better today...just kinda weak.
My friend Kara had her baby boy Ryland Wednesday. He came 4 days early. We are going to see him tonight.
I got my pedicure done on Wednesday. For those of you in Decatur I am going to recommend an excellent place for a spa pedicure. LT Nails...it's in the Books A Million shopping center. They are fabulous there. Try it out. Their pedicures are 25 dollars and last about 6-8 weeks (probably longer when you don't wear sandals or flip flops everyday like I do).
So I have been thinking about my old sorority t-shirts lately. I think it is because it's Rush time and while I was on campus yesterday I saw sidewalk drawings advertising rush. I want to make my old t-shirts into a quilt. That way it is a useful memory and they are not just sitting in a box like they are now. I have tons! So I am thinking of taking a quilting class at Hancock fabrics. I am wondering how hard it would be. I checked out prices online of places that make these quilts and they seem kinda high to me. I would also love to learn how to sew. Hmmm I'll have to look into it.
Happy Friday all. Have an excellent weekend!

10 on Tuesday

1. My open house went great. I really enjoyed myself and I think most others enjoyed themselves as well :) Here some pics of the food.

2. A friend of ours made this for us. She is due any day now with her baby boy and this is how she has been spending her hours of can't get comfortableness. Next spring it'll be put outside when we do our new landscaping.

3. I start grad classes Thursday. I am taking 4 of those suckers so my time is fixing to be spent absorbed into books. It's been a while since I had to do that.

4. Labor Day weekend me and my hunny are going to Orange Beach. Just me and him and I am so looking forward to it. It'll be the first trip we have taken alone since our honeymoon. We wanted a stress less weekend laying by the beach.

5. This morning Wes wakes me up by a 6 am phone call. He had just left the house like 15 minutes prior to that. His car had broken down. He drives this old 95 civic to work because his Explorer is a gas guzzler for short trips like that. This civic has like 150 thousand miles on it but you know honda's can go a long ways. He thought he had cracked the engine. His dad also works out at the Ferry and he works thirds so I told him to call him since he'd be getting off and have him tow it. (Technically his dad owns that car not us, Wes just uses it for the stated above purpose). I was fixing to have to go all the way out there and get him when luckily a guy he works with passes and stops and gives him a lift. On a normal day this would have just been an inconvenience for Wes but this morning was his first major test in his apprenticeship and it has been stressing him out for a week! Update : Wes' car got fixed...it was just some kind of hose that had popped spraying coolant everywhere...his dad replaced it and brought the car to him. Also his test is over and he did fine so now he can relax :)

6. We are getting to go to Joe Wheeler park for a picnic Saturday. It is for Wes' work and they are feeding us Swamp Johns. Looking forward to that because I have never had them but I heard they are good. Also Bingo with door prizes is going to be played. Whoo Hoo :)

7. Going to get a pedicure tomorrow!!

8. Need some recipes for easy suppers or things I can make and freeze on Sundays to be eaten during the week. I am fixing to not have the time to make these from scratch meals every night that I have been making. Any ideas or websites that are helpful?

9. I am super excited that football season starts up in a week and a half. We are going down to Auburn the 15th of September to watch them play Mississippi State. Then we are going to satisfy Wes' wish of going to see Tennessee play Vandy in November at Tennessee. He wants to see the stadium and campus. We are not really a house divided. I am an Auburn fan, he is a Tennessee fan, but we both can watch the other team and root for them as well, unless they were playing each other. Fortunately, right now, they don't play each other unless it is in the SEC championship or a bowl game. So in our flower bed this fall will be displayed a Auburn flag and a Tennessee flag. War Eagle and Go Vols! :)

10. Finally another note about football. Some of you may know that my big brother is a football coach at Buckhorn High School (a Madison county school). Some of you may also know that my brother played for Austin quite a few years back. Well this year the two teams face off and for the first time since his high school playing days my brother will be back at Ogle Stadium. (Can't you just hear the dum dum dum music in the background LOL) I plan on going to see that game. You know it will be really wierd to be sitting on the visitors side of that field when all those years I sat on the home side. Well except for our off years when we played Decatur and had to be the visitors. Lovely :)

Happy Tuesday all!

10 on Thursday

1. I have been having to use this (pic 1) to curb these goobers (pic 2) when they get a little rowdy.

2. We went and visited some of our friends last night that are getting married in October. They are going to be living in Decatur and Dennis already is so Lauren was in town and we went to Decatur to see their new townhouse. We got to talking about wedding pics and I was telling her how disappointed I was that I didn't get a shot of me tossing the bouquet...yeah the photographer missed that one but anyway another post another time...and she told me that she had a shot of it. So this morning I check my email and she had sent me a few shots from my wedding. So excited!

3. Speaking of shots from the wedding...I was looking over my pics and I realized that it has been almost 14 months since I got married...and I got depressed because I was a whole lot skinnier then. :( So I made up my mind...I'm going to do it again! Starting Monday (because I like to start things like this on a easier day to track :) ) I am going to begin my diet. I did weight watchers before and I have all the tools so I know how to do it again. It worked last time so it should work this time....now that means that this weekend I need to buy a scale for my house :) Wish me luck...I think I might start a second blog for that one...I'll keep you posted.

4. I'll be able to post pics Monday of the house. I have to get it ready for my open house on Saturday. So it will clean and picturable :) Of course not everything is painted yet and the master bedroom is getting a total color overhaul (bedspread and all). But of course I'll update as it happens.

5. Give me ideas of a good place to buy a cute dress for an October wedding. I am serving in the reception so I want it to be cute. Any ideas?

Okay so I think I'll stop at 5. Have a happy Thursday!

A True Southern Bridal Tea

So today I went to my friend Lauren Parker's bridal tea. This was a bridal tea like no one I have ever been to. It was the kind where like 200 people were invited and she didn't open her own presents, someone else did and displayed them out in the house. There was a meet/greet receiving line with Lauren, her mom, and her future hubby's mom. And I tell you this girl got set up for some serious entertaining after her big day. She got some nice things. It was just very different from my own bridal shower experiences. The house they had it in was like a 400,000 dollar house, it was gorgeous! The owner had some great style. It looked like a house straight from the designing catalogs. I was amazed at the whole experience :) I have to say though I preferred opening my own presents. That was one of the best parts. My mom said that a shower like that was a traditional formal tea. I wish I had taken pictures. Hope everyone's week starts off well :)

I'm going to do a 10 on Thursday :)

1. Peaches and Savannah are getting along much better now. Savannah's previous owner told us it was an alpha cat thing. But Peaches hasn't backed down...Savannah has just decided to let it go :)
's
2. My grad classes resume again in 2 weeks.

3. The UPS people have lost my camera that Sony shipped back to me. Uh yeah..and they aren't too concerned about it either. Um...according to them they called me( they didn't ) and I told them I would come pick it up at the site in Decatur. Um no I don't think so...why would I want to do that? Isn't that the purpose of UPS? To deliver? So I don't know who or if anyone has my camera...this all took place last week and I was just made aware of it yesterday because I used my work order to check at Sony.com to see how my camera was coming along. It said it had been shipped back and gave me a tracking #..when I checked it said that it had reached the Decatur site last Wednesday August 1 and then the above referenced material. Um someone better be finding my camera. Me and Wes are going over there this afternoon after he gets off work. My best friend Jennifer's dad is the manager at that location and I just might have to let his little workers know that piece of info...sorry for my ramblings but heck it ticks me off. Enough said.

4. We are going to the beach labor day weekend. Just me and my hubby :)

5. My dad turns 60 this year in October so I am throwing him a surprise birthday party.

6. Give me motivation to accomplish all that I need to accomplish. No seriously I am just not as motivated as I used to be. I have things that need to be done but I just procrastinate and procrastinate. Like now..I am rambling on yet I have 20 other things that I could and should be doing. Help!

7. I am not sure who knows yet but this year I am taking a work break. I am going to grad school full time and subbing only. This is so I can finish my masters so we can move on to babies. I am looking forward to it. It is a blessing that I can do this.

8. Tell me how weeds can grow so abundantly yet there is no rain? It seems like I am constantly pulling weeds out of my flower beds.

9. I hit a major sale at Kohl's yesterday. Got some really needed and cute clothes. I love sales!

10. I would just like to thank ya'll for reading my ramblings. :) Ya'll are some excellent people :)

Happy Thursday! It's almost the weekend!

We got a new kitty

Well Peaches now has a new friend...although the word friend isn't exactly appropriate. We got Savannah yesterday from a buddy of Wes' that had to give her away because he is leaving for Iraq in a couple of weeks to be a translator. The kicker is Savannah is from the same litter as Peaches...but they don't seem to recognize one another. Peaches is trying to be friendly bless her little heart but Savannah is having none of it. She keeps hissing at her :( It's weird too because Savannah came from a home with three other cats and a dog and Peaches has been it for us since Ashes died. You'd think Peaches would be the one who feels threatened. I hope they can learn to live together. They don't have to like each other I just want Peaches to be able to walk past without Savannah hissing at her. Anyway I have two quick pictures if it'll let me put them on here. I took them with my cell phone because I still haven't gotten my camera back from Sony yet. Happy Monday!

This is Savannah.

Prayers

Wes' grandma passed away yesterday. She had Alhzimer's. They are having a graveside service for her on Saturday. He was pretty close to her because she kept him when he was little while his mom and dad had to make constant runs to Birmingham Children's Hospital for his twin brother. As he put it "She was like a second mom to him" She was already in the nursing home and not herself by the time I met Wes but I have heard some fascinating stories about this woman. She was a gem to Wes. Please keep him and his family in your prayers. Have a great weekend.
