For the Auburn Fans

My husband received this in the mail yesterday. His little brother sent it to him. Wes wants to annoy the Bama fans he works with because when it comes to football they can be jerks. I have a feeling he is stirring up some trouble but LOL it is funny :) War Eagle!!

Weekend Plans??

TGIF! How's everyone's week been? Mine has been okay. Had two tests this week and got a test back. Not too bad :) I haven't been feeling great though. Just kinda worn down. I keep on truckin though :) What's everyone's plans for the weekend?
We are going to Florence tonight to eat dinner with our friends Jamie and Stephen. We get to play with their 2 year old Logan. Wish I had a pic, because he is the most adorable red head you have ever seen.
Saturday we are going to the pumpkin patch with our friends Kara and Doug and their newborn, Ryland. Fun times. Then we are going to carve pumpkins. Saturday night it's all about the football. Auburn takes on Florida. Big game. So myself will be sitting on the couch with my eyes glued to ESPN. I am hoping that Auburn can pull this off. War Eagle!
Sunday it is church then I am going to spend the afternoon finishing up my fall crafts and such. I will post pictures on Monday of the decorations. Wes has a study group for work on Sunday afternoon so I'll have plenty of time to finish. Sunday night I am thinking about renting the movies Knocked Up and We are Marshall. Anyone seen them? Are they good? They look good.
Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend!

Landscaping...what to do???

Ok here are some pictures of the awful landscaping job that was done on my house to bypass the mortgage company. They have left us with a big ol mess to fix up. I need suggestions. I am in the process of researching websites, reading magazines and books and looking at other people landscapes. We have a few ideas but they are mainly for our backyard which has to wait till spring. We probably will only be able to prep our yard this fall with the majority of the work happening in the spring. But I thought I might get some insight now. Thanks!

This is one front bed.

This is the other front bed. We want to put some kind of hardscape around it.

Boring old mailbox.

This is on the opposite side of our driveway and therefor doesn't get much sun. We thought about putting pavers here because I am not sure I want any type of bed here like they planted.

Our huge, starting to get some grass backyard. This will be fenced in next spring.

Wes will be building a deck in this space.

This is one side of our yard. We are not sure why they didn't sod the side yards because grass seed is not growing there. So we are looking into sodding it. Should I put any kind of beds on this side?
I guess that's about it. Like I said I am reading up on anything I can get my hands on about this. Oh yeah and FYI all the existing plants are being ripped up and this mulch is going bye bye. We are starting afresh and any good plant suggestions would be appreciated as well. Any input ya'll have would be nice to hear. Happy Thursday!

Glitter Pumpkins

I am so doing these for my fall decorations. Go to www.marthastewart.com (sorry I tried to link it but I am not real good with that yet.) It's under the pumpkin stuff, simply named Glitter Pumpkins. It looks real cute and easy. I plan on putting out my fall decorations this Friday. I'll take pics to post when I am all finished. I finished my wreath for my front door last night when I was taking a break from studying. We are going to the pumpkin patch this weekend so I can get some real pumpkins. I posted earlier that I have never carved a pumpkin before. This is because when I was younger (like so young I don't remember it) my mom said that her and my brother carved some and they put them out and someone smashed them in our driveway. How mean is that to smash some little kids pumpkin. So anyway I never really showed much interest in actually carving one. Now we did take them and decorate them with paint and markers...we just made sure to bring them in at night. But now since I live out in Buddah I think our pumpkins are safe. So me and Wes are going to carve us some :)

Maybe this link will work to give you a picture of the glitter pumpkins. If it doesn't you can do just go to the actual site.
Colleen you asked me about Tate Farms...that is the one in Meridianville. I have heard they have one in Moulton called Misty Hallow. Also there is White Farms out in Priceville, although I am not sure if that is a pumpkin patch. They are the ones that run that haunted corn maze thing.
Happy Wednesday all!

My Ten Favorite Things about Fall

1. Football, Football, and More Football! High school or College I am not picky. War Eagle!

2. I have a front porch this year so guess what I get to do...decorate! Yeah! And Hobby Lobby and Michael's had lots of stuff to help me out on this.

3. It is finally below 90 degrees. This morning when I left for school it was like 62 degrees outside. It felt wonderful.

4. Mother Nature turns everything pretty colors.

5. Pumpkin Patches. Those of you that have little ones and are in North Alabama go to Tate Farms in Madison County. It is awesome! Great photo ops and lots of fun.

6. This fall I have found out that many many of my friends are adding additions to their families. Congrats to them all!

7. I am going to carve a pumpkin for the first time ever in all my 27 years on Earth this year.

8. I love school supplies. Yes I am a dork. Yes I don't know if this technically falls into the fall category but I am making it one. When I was a kid I loved going back to school simply for the new school supplies. Today I still wander the aisles drooling over all the new stuff and I buy it so I have a healthy stock of it. But that's ok...don't think I am wierd. I am a teacher and it comes in handy, even if this year it is being put on hold :)

9. Did I mention football :)

10. Candy corn. Enough said!

Happy Tuesday all!

Fall Begins

Hey all! Just wanted to take a minute to write because I won't be on much this week due to being busy busy busy! A few going on's in the McClanahan household:

1. A thank you shout out and plug for Lauren (Humphrey- check her blog Happy Honeymoon) for the fantabulous burp cloths and taggies she made for me to give to a friend! She did great, they are perfect, and the new momma was happy. Here is a pic.

2. I got a new cell phone this week! Bout time after over two years of my old one. It is the Samsung SCH-u740 in Black. It opens two different ways! It is cool! I can open it like a regular flip phone or I can open it like a little mini computer. Sweet! And you know what's the best part? We got two phones for 39 dollars! I am on Verizon's new every two deal and so I got a 100 buck upgrade then a 50 dollar rebate. Then they were running the deal of if you got this phone then you could get up to 3 Razr's free. So Wes got him the new razr. I'd say that's a pretty decent deal.

3. I am in the process of making my own fall decor for the outside of the house and a little bit inside. Since we have a front porch I am pretty excited about it and have lots of ideas :) I'll post a pic when I have completed and assembled it.

4. So me and Wes get the joy of totally redoing our landscape front and back. Whoo hoo...I hope I can do this without screwing it up. We are mainly just getting this prepared for next spring. Next weekend we are digging up our flower beds that the builder's landscaper didn't do a good job on. Then we are spraying weed killer on the beds. Then we are tilling up the dirt. Then laying down that landscaping film ( the black stuff). We are drawing out designs of what we like. I am also scouring out magazines and books about he subject. We are also going to be planting some trees this fall and putting weed and feed on our sod. We are checking prices to see how much it'll be to sod our side yards, why are builder didn't do it we aren't sure, and we are going to have to re-seed our back yard. Whew sounds like a lot of work. So that will be the fall endeavor and next spring.

5. I have my first two tests in my grad school classes this week. Hence the busy part. Studying Studying Studying. I have been doing it most of today and frankly I needed a break.

Well due to the link of this post I am going to stop now. Ya'll are great to read my boring ramblings :) Have a great week everyone!

My thoughts on college repersentation

So we went to the Auburn game this weekend. I had fun, I wish AU had won, but overall I think it was a good game. My rant is about the student's representation of their school. As ya'll know I didn't attend Auburn, but I would have been proud if I did. My brother in law is a sophomore chemical engineering major down there. He gets our tickets for us and we sit in the student section with him. I however am a representive and proud alumni of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and last night I was embarrassed to admit that. Like I said we sat in the student section. Ok so everyone knows that the students will sneak in alcohol. No biggie as long as you just behave yourself and have respect for your surrounding fans. I have learned that the sororities and fraternities dress up for these games. This was a little new to me because at UNA we didn't do that...we wore our letters. But anyways...my point is that the Greek population is identifiable. So last night we somehow managed to get seats surrounded by the Greeks. I might add that the original place we were about to sit was rudely told to us "That these 6 rows are saved for those of us who are Greek." I was a little taken aback about that. It's fine that they were saved, but they didn't have to be rude about it because we weren't dressed like we were going to church. I wanted to say to the obnoxious 18 year old pledge that excuse me but I am a alum of the greek community so back off...but anyway we just moved. Well we spent the course of the game surrounded by the foul mouths of these students of Auburn as they shouted obscenities about the team, the coach, and the school itself. Now don't get me wrong, I understand that people are going to ralled up over bad calls and get upset when people mess up but these were really obscene. God's name was taken in vain quite often, apparently according to my brother in law there are several Cox "haters" there and all they could do was rag on him and the chick sitting behind me went as far to yell in her I am soo drunk voice "I hope you die Brandon Cox on your way home!" They kept saying Auburn sucks. I was appalled. These are people who are paying money to go to school there yet they are going to rag on their team and act like a bunch of redneck fools.
One reason I have don't like the University of Alabama fans basis (no offense to those of you who are) is that they get a label of being redneck fans. Like last year when they lost to Tennessee a fan tried to attack Smokey the Dog and then after the Auburn game they threw a full bottle of water at Kenny Irons smacking him in the face and giving him a black eye as he was walking off the field. Pure foolishness. Well last night my heart was broken as I watch these Greek men and women representing a great school throw water bottles at the South Florida team after they scored the winning drive and where celebrating in the end field. What the heck? Maybe I am disillusioned but not only are these people representing a Greek society but most importantly they are representing a fine school, and this is how they behave. They were all sooooo drunk and falling all over people, hollering the obscenities, and I swear I smelled like whiskey and sweat when I walked out of the stadium. I was pretty disgusted and appalled. I know that this goes on at most schools, and maybe I am just getting old, but what happened to true sportsmanship and being proud of your school?
On a lighter note I think me and Wes jinx the team :) Last year we went to the AU vs Arkansas game and that was the first one they lost, and then last night they lose again. His brother told us (jokingly) that we can't come to any more games. I am almost afraid to lol. I think maybe though we will be skipping the student section from now on and sitting in the regular admission seats. I do long to see in person Toomer's corner in all its toilet paper glory :) Here are a couple of pics. Hope you all have a good week.

Brandon Cox is by far my favorite player with King Dunlap being a close second.

PS. To add to my rant of the way the Greeks were acting...I had gotten one of those fan's in the shape of an Auburn football helmet that the bookstore gives out for free. It had AU's schedule on it and I had plans of taking it off of the stick and putting the helmet part on blue scrapbook paper and framing it in one of those album cover frames and hanging it in my office. Well Wes had it stuck in his back pocket of his jeans to keep it during the game. The girls sitting behind us lifted it out of his back pocket and put it in one of their purses. Zach my brother in law saw this happen and said something and they were like no we didn't I had this.....blatanly lying to him. I mean he saw them do it!! I was pretty disappointed but I told him to forget about it because there is no use in arguing with a drunk girl. End of rant. Sorry for such a long post but thanks for reading :)

Photography Thoughts

It was back to the everyday world today after our long weekend at the beach. We had lots of fun and I took some pics. I am going to post some that I am thinking of printing out in black and white, sepia, and some color to put into my master bathroom, and in my master bedroom when the colors get changed. My master bath is a light blue green color right now...it is called sparkling lake. Do you think these will go good in there?

Sorry I forgot to flip this one.

I am trying to take some different kinds of pictures. We are going to the Auburn vs. South Florida game this weekend and I am going to go around and take pics of the campus and stuff and print those out in the different types to put in our office. Also we are going to the Tenn vs Vandy game in Nov and I am going to do the same with those for our office as well. I figured that this could be some personal artwork and it's a lot cheaper than I can buy them for :)
Well I hope everyone has a great week. It's already hump day tomorrow :) I'll leave you with a couple of more shots from our beach trip!

There isn't nothing like a picture of yourself to realize that you need to lose a few pounds :)(I am talking about myself :) )

Wow! Wes can shoot a death ray from his eye!

The giant purple octopus is going to take over the world!

A really good shot of my handsome hubby :)
Have a great rest of the week!
