My thoughts on college repersentation

So we went to the Auburn game this weekend. I had fun, I wish AU had won, but overall I think it was a good game. My rant is about the student's representation of their school. As ya'll know I didn't attend Auburn, but I would have been proud if I did. My brother in law is a sophomore chemical engineering major down there. He gets our tickets for us and we sit in the student section with him. I however am a representive and proud alumni of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and last night I was embarrassed to admit that. Like I said we sat in the student section. Ok so everyone knows that the students will sneak in alcohol. No biggie as long as you just behave yourself and have respect for your surrounding fans. I have learned that the sororities and fraternities dress up for these games. This was a little new to me because at UNA we didn't do that...we wore our letters. But anyways...my point is that the Greek population is identifiable. So last night we somehow managed to get seats surrounded by the Greeks. I might add that the original place we were about to sit was rudely told to us "That these 6 rows are saved for those of us who are Greek." I was a little taken aback about that. It's fine that they were saved, but they didn't have to be rude about it because we weren't dressed like we were going to church. I wanted to say to the obnoxious 18 year old pledge that excuse me but I am a alum of the greek community so back off...but anyway we just moved. Well we spent the course of the game surrounded by the foul mouths of these students of Auburn as they shouted obscenities about the team, the coach, and the school itself. Now don't get me wrong, I understand that people are going to ralled up over bad calls and get upset when people mess up but these were really obscene. God's name was taken in vain quite often, apparently according to my brother in law there are several Cox "haters" there and all they could do was rag on him and the chick sitting behind me went as far to yell in her I am soo drunk voice "I hope you die Brandon Cox on your way home!" They kept saying Auburn sucks. I was appalled. These are people who are paying money to go to school there yet they are going to rag on their team and act like a bunch of redneck fools.
One reason I have don't like the University of Alabama fans basis (no offense to those of you who are) is that they get a label of being redneck fans. Like last year when they lost to Tennessee a fan tried to attack Smokey the Dog and then after the Auburn game they threw a full bottle of water at Kenny Irons smacking him in the face and giving him a black eye as he was walking off the field. Pure foolishness. Well last night my heart was broken as I watch these Greek men and women representing a great school throw water bottles at the South Florida team after they scored the winning drive and where celebrating in the end field. What the heck? Maybe I am disillusioned but not only are these people representing a Greek society but most importantly they are representing a fine school, and this is how they behave. They were all sooooo drunk and falling all over people, hollering the obscenities, and I swear I smelled like whiskey and sweat when I walked out of the stadium. I was pretty disgusted and appalled. I know that this goes on at most schools, and maybe I am just getting old, but what happened to true sportsmanship and being proud of your school?
On a lighter note I think me and Wes jinx the team :) Last year we went to the AU vs Arkansas game and that was the first one they lost, and then last night they lose again. His brother told us (jokingly) that we can't come to any more games. I am almost afraid to lol. I think maybe though we will be skipping the student section from now on and sitting in the regular admission seats. I do long to see in person Toomer's corner in all its toilet paper glory :) Here are a couple of pics. Hope you all have a good week.

Brandon Cox is by far my favorite player with King Dunlap being a close second.

PS. To add to my rant of the way the Greeks were acting...I had gotten one of those fan's in the shape of an Auburn football helmet that the bookstore gives out for free. It had AU's schedule on it and I had plans of taking it off of the stick and putting the helmet part on blue scrapbook paper and framing it in one of those album cover frames and hanging it in my office. Well Wes had it stuck in his back pocket of his jeans to keep it during the game. The girls sitting behind us lifted it out of his back pocket and put it in one of their purses. Zach my brother in law saw this happen and said something and they were like no we didn't I had this.....blatanly lying to him. I mean he saw them do it!! I was pretty disappointed but I told him to forget about it because there is no use in arguing with a drunk girl. End of rant. Sorry for such a long post but thanks for reading :)

Sigh. For what it's worth the fraternities at Auburn are a little too rowdy and righteous. The sororities aren't as bad, I imagine you were in the fraternity section... They send their little pledges to the game 2 hours early to reserve seats and then show up 5 minutes before the game. I've seen Jack Daniels come out of a baggie in a pants pocket one too many times. I hope next time you get a chance to sit far away from them; we really had a good time with the other students when we went. I got to sit 4 rows up behind the goal post at the Auburn Alabama game my senior year and it was awesome. Not a fraternity pledge in sight.

And FWIW, no offense to any fraternity guys out there, I've dated several of ya'll. :) I think the ones at Auburn who get out of hand know they're rowdy though.
