So the packing begins.....

This weekend I began packing our apartment up. My question to myself is why in the world did I unpack so much stuff in the first place? I guess I wanted it to feel more homely because our first place didn't feel that way. But if I had known we would only be here six months I wouldn't have done it :)
I also helped my mom price stuff for our garage sale that is being held this upcoming Saturday...man do we have a lot of stuff...it's mostly mine left over from the college years. Maybe someone can find a use for some of it :)
I have started a diet this week. I was very sad to find out that a lot of the weight I had lost from doing weight watchers 2 years ago had come back in the form of "comfortable weight" from being married :) I discovered this when I was pricing some jeans that I had put in the give away box over a year ago because they were too big...and I realized that um now they'd fit again...yeah that totally sucked! It made me a little depressed. I knew I had gained weight but man it was really thrown in my face with that. So I decided I would do something about it. Food isn't really my problem. It's my metabolism. It's super slow. I also don't exercise. So Dr. Spangler informed me that exercising will boost my metabolism. So I am going to exercise. Simple as that. I am also going to start doing my points again for WW...although I am not going to the meetings as of yet. I can do it at home. I have all the materials and the know how. So wish me luck. I would like to drop 30 pounds by this time next year. I hope I can do it.
Also say a prayer for Wes. Tomorrow is his Brown's Ferry interview and he is a nervous wreck. He knows this stuff but he is lacking a little confidence in himself.
This job is important to him because this is what he went to school for. This is his dream job.
Happy Monday and hope ya'll all have a good week. :)

Thursday 13

1. Yeah for mint chocolate chip ice cream and Keebler's waffle bowls :) Yum-O!

2. My kitty has decided that he doesn't want to use his litter box in the bathroom anymore..he thinks the whole floor is his toilet...I am tired of mopping every day! So I put newspaper covering the entire floor! Ghetto? Yes but hey it saves me from mopping everyday! Besides it only has to last for another month then it's moving time and he gets the whole garage and outdoors to himself :) (Oh yeah all I have do have to do everyday now is change out the newspaper...much easier...and I mop twice a week now)

3. Tomorrow I am taking a day off and going with my best friend Jennifer on a girls day out. We are getting pedicure's and going to lunch at Main Street Cafe here in Madison. I have never eaten there but have heard it's good.

4. Wes has his interview on Tuesday. He is a nervous wreck. Wish him luck :)

5. I'll be glad when we get moved. You know I have moved three times in the span of a year? I am ready to not have to keep boxes for packing :)

6. I passed my Spanish final with an "A" ! Now I just have to decide if I want to go into ESL or Reading Specialist.

7.Anyone got any suggestions for a part time job for the summer? Seeing as I teach at a private school I only get paid 9 months...I want some extra money to buy stuff for the house...any ideas?

8. Speaking of the house we now have flooring and lighting is going in at the beginning of next week. It's almost finished!!

9. I am working on cross stitching a baby quilt and I finished the edging on it last night whoo hoo :)

10. Our Washington D.C. trip is less than a month away!

11. I found the perfect mothers day gift at Target. It is a iron scroll work piece that you hang up and in the middle of it is a ceramic plaque that you can put initials in...so that's what the mom's are getting. It is $14.99 for the iron piece and $3.99 for the ceramic insert...not a bad gift for $20...I kinda want one for myself.

12. Wes still has to tell his parents we bought a house...yeah he hasn't told them yet...he kinda doesn't want to...see where Wes comes from you can buy a good house for like 70,000 dollars, and we all know that around here you can't do that and he is afraid that his mom won't be understanding. Understanding or not it isn't her decision but he doesn't want to hear her gripe...my mom said that we should just send her (Wes' mom) a "We've Moved" announcement to tell her! She said she was kidding but I wonder how much...you'd just have to know my mother in law!

13. Coming up with 13 things is hard :)

Happy Thursday all...only one more day left in the work week!

Ever changing style

Ok...I have been married almost a year and I have to say it. I am ready for new decoration in my home....isn't that ridiculous? I think it might be the fact that I am getting this new house and I want a different feel to it. I really just think that I should have thought more about what kind of stuff I was picking out before we got married. I think at the time I just thought well it's going to be an apartment and it's not like I can really decorate an apartment...I just didn't get excited about it...but see now I am excited and I look all the time at all this new stuff :)
Let me get your opinion. Right now I have a red, black, and creme kitchen with chef accents. Red is the predominant color. I need to stick with the red because I have a lot of cute pieces and some I haven't even used yet. But do you think I could mix green and blue with it to make it more fun? Honest opinions please. Don't worry the chef's would not be included. I am thinking like changing out some of my hand towels, and getting some pics for the kitchen...that is the extent because that won't break the bank on that project.
Also we have jewel colors in our master. It is two diff shades of gold, a ruby, and a jade green. Our bedspread is a solid gold with those color accent pillows. What color scheme would you paint the walls?
There are other things too, but I won't ask you too many questions at once :) Did any of you go through this kind of thing? I mean I can't change out my decor every year...that's not practical is it? Thanks for all your help and advice and letting me go on about this :)

Home Sick

Well last night I was running a fever...and at my school child or teacher has to be free and clear of said fever for 24 hours before returning. Hence I am at home with a horrible head cold and as for now the fever has reduced. So sick day equals plenty of computer time and television...oh and napping!
My hubby was so sweet about it too...he was like you sure you don't want me to stay home from work? I was like yes, it's totally sweet of you to want to take care of me, but I'll be fine. I am one of those kinds that just wants to lay around and really be left alone...so with this cold nothing sounded more heveanly to me than having the place to myself :)
At least yesterday we got the flooring picked out for our house....it was easier than I thought it would be. So now we just need to do lighting and appliances and then we'll be through till closing. Yeah!
Oh and a side note...the below post about dixie or yankee on the link i forgot to put the l at the end of htm...so that would be why the link didn't work in case anyone tried it.
Last night Wes fixed hamburgers and pasta salad for us. I love it when he cooks the hamburgers because he lets it maranade in Dale's sauce and minces up onion and stirs it in there...soooo good. I made a strawberry cheesecake...which he loved...and I haven't tried yet because I didn't want any last night.
Ok so I know this is totally a rambling post...I'm bored :) So I have been thinking...
If you had a million dollars and could do anything with it what 10 things would you do? Be creative...I know people would give to charity and all that, but after you did the good with it, what would you do with it for yourself?
I would...
1. Travel...it's my passion anyway...I would go to Italy first. I could do the 1000 places to see before I died thing :)
2. Open my tea party business.
3. I would totally design a house with all the bells and whistles. I have been addicted to HGTV and those other channels that have flip this house type shows...I would go all out.
4. I would buy all new furniture for that bells and whistles house :)
5. I would buy myself a new car...now which one I don't know...but I would buy one. 6. I would buy Wes his own garage to where he could do all his bodyshop work to his hearts content. He loves fixing up cars and doing the hotrod thing.
7. I would totally update my home library....I'd buy any book I want to.
8. Lifetime mani's and pedi's
9. I'd hire my own personal masseuse
10. I'd also have a maid, cook, and personal trainer :)
Ok so mine aren't that creative but these are things that I know I'd do. :) So tag your it :)
Happy Wednesday!

A fun quiz

Are you Yankee or Dixie? Take this quiz. Just for the record I am 79% Dixie :)

http://www.angelfire.com/ak2/intelligencerreport/yankee_dixie_quiz.html

Ok now that I can post again....

Blogger was giving me problems all weekend...so was myspace....sometimes I hate the internet!!
Well we are making progression on the house. We go this afternoon to pick out lights and flooring. We tried to pick out the flooring on Saturday but the lady at the place gave us a hard time and tried to say there was no info on our house and that we must have the wrong lot number. So she starts pulling all the sheets on the houses and says that we must be buying lot 65 and not 46. (Just for the record I know which lot I am buying and it is 46). She then proceeds to tell us because she is soo sure she is right that the stuff has been picked out for our house (she is still going off lot 65) and that there was nothing we could do about it because it has already been ordered. She was a hag!!! So I call Patti ( my real estate agent) and tell her what is going on. She tells me to just thank the lady and leave. She then calls Richard (our builder) and tells him what is going on and he has to call up there and straighten things out. He informs the hag that we are indeed buying lot 46 and that we are indeed picking out the flooring and that's that. So we get to go back today and actually do it. It is tempting for me to go "Told you so" to the woman but that wouldn't be very mature :)
Outside of that we had a good weekend. Wes' family had a get together dinner Sunday afternoon so after church we headed to Revilo, TN (MIDDLE OF FREAKING NOWHERE!) It was nice seeing all his aunts and the food was delicious....one of his aunts brought some homemade(not out of a package but from scratch) Mexican cornbread that she is going to have to give me the recipe for!! And Roz since you are all about some recipes when I get it I'll pass it your way :)
So I am still looking for inspirations on decorating my new house. If anyone has any good websites, etc that I can look at just pass them my way. This is the one reason I love thenest.com They have chat boards and you can make bios and some people do and I get to see real houses. I love Pottery Barns sight too.
Okay I think that is enough of my randomness for today! Happy Tuesday all.

The House

Ok yesterday we went out and signed the contract...and I got a few pics of the house.

This is the front of the house. The board on the porch that's holding up the ledge will be replaced by a white pole. Also it will have shutters and the front door will be painted the color the shutters are.

This is the texture of the the ceiling throughout. My favorite is smooth ceilings, but this is okay to.

This is the entryway.

This is my bad picture taking of the living room. It's hard to get the whole thing in when you don't have anything in their to focus to make sure the picture is getting the whole room. The second picture shows the trey ceilings. Those are in the master bedroom as well.

This is one half of the kitchen...I am standing in the eat in part of the kitchen to take the picture. I don't know if you can see but to the left of the picture is a door...that is the pantry.
This is all I have for now...electricity isn't on yet and it was starting to get dusk so the others I have are kinda dim and you can't really see much. I'll post others later. The house is supposed to be done the last part of this month or the first part of May. We have a tentative closing date of May 30th. I am now looking for decorating ideas. Anyone know of any good inspiration websites? Also Roz I really liked your idea of the big calendar that you put in K.J's man room....what kind of supplies would I need to get for one of those? I'd like to put it in our office. Happy Thursday all!!

Signing the Contract Today!!!

Yes Yes...today it's happening. I told ya'll we were building one out at Antler Point...there has been slight change but not major. The builder already had one out there that was 85% completed that another guy backed out on. So me and Wes took a look and low and behold it was the same house plan and we still get to pick out the flooring, lighting, and appliances. We liked the brick color and the cabinets and countertops...we are going to have to change the cabinet hardware because it just does not look right. That's no biggie though. This just works out better because our lease with our apartment runs out June 11 and with this house we can close by the end of May and be out of the apt without having to pay extra. And it gives me a few extra days to get in there and paint...the color they have painted is nice...just neutral although not too light but we want some color so painting it is. So today at 4pm we are signing the contract....whooo hooo....the homeowner process has begun :) Have to admit slightly nervous....wow!!! Happy Wednesday!!

My Easter bunny cake

This is the pan I used. I was originally going to take two round cakes and cut one up for the ears but then Susan said she had this pan so I used it instead.

Here is Wes icing it for me.

And Finally.........

The Cake!!!
We used writing icing to do the decorations and next time I won't do that again...it was a lot harder than it looks and it kind of gives the cake a childlike look to it. It tasted pretty good though. I guess it's not bad for a first timer who has never taken a cake decorating class in her life. Maybe I should take the class? :) Happy Monday!

Happy Easter and Have a great weekend!

As for me my plans are family time this weekend. Think of me as I am freezing my tail off tonight oh in about an hour at my cousin Ashley's softball game. What is up with this weather....here we were enjoying nice warm weather and now it's like freezing out there....Alabama weather...you gotta love it. I am attempting my Easter bunny cake tomorrow, and I will post pictures of how it turns out...lol pretty or ugly :) Happy Easter and have a great weekend everyone!!

Ladies and Gents...We have a decision!!!

We are going to be building a house at Antler Point....let the fun times begin...by the end of the week we should have our lot picked out, our earnest money paid and the contract signed...with ground breaking ASAP :) YEAH!!!!! This is the craziest but most exciting decision I have ever made :) I'll keep you posted as we go along :) Happy Wednesday!!

Ten on Tuesday

1. I am trying to find a "summer" job to make a little extra cash for decorating our new house when we get it. Redstone Federal Credit Union is having a job fair for tellers this Thursday night. They pay $11 dollars an hour and that's the best part time pay I have ever seen. I definitely have the cashier experience it says it prefers seeing as how that is the only type of job I have ever had besides teaching. Wish me luck.

2. Today at 4:30 we meet with a builder that is building a new subdivision out in East Limestone called Antler's Point. We already know it's in our price range and if we like the layouts and the land then I think that might be what we are going to do. If not I think we are putting a bid on a house we looked at last Thursday. So hopefully we will have a decision within the week. I am sooo ready for this house!!

3. Me and Wes have decided what our 10 year anniversary trip is going to be. A 12 night Mediterranean Cruise. It's on Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas and it leaves from Barcelona, Spain and goes to Monte Carlo, France (the French Rivera), Florence/Pisa, Italy, Rome, Italy, Naples and Capri, Italy, Venice Italy, Split, Croatia, and Tunis, Tunisia. We saw a show on the Travel Channel, Samantha Brown's First Cruises, and she took this exact cruise so I checked it out online an it looks heavenly. Of course by the time 2016 gets here it may be a different ship but still the route is what we want to take.

4. We have progress in the Brown's Ferry job, but I can't say what it is yet. But so far it's going well.

5. This weekend I am going to try my hand at making an easter bunny cake for Easter dinner at my family's this weekend. This will be my first attempt but Susan gave me directions so I hope it works out. I will post a pic after I make it.

6. My mom and I have decided that in a little over 2 years when she retires we are going to open a business in Decatur that is a place where people can rent out the building to have receptions, bridal/baby showers, b'day parties and stuff like that. I am also wanting to do little girl tea parties as well. I would like for us to buy one of the houses in Old Decatur for this purpose. I believe Decatur needs a place like this because the only options thus far there is basically restaurants, the country clubs( but I think you have to have someone to sponsor you there), and hotel banquet rooms. I would like a cute little house fixed up really pretty with flowers and elegantly decorated and rent it out for reasonable prices. I have been wanting to do this for a very long time.

7. Did ya'll realize that JCPenny's has tons of Pottery Barn knockoffs....it's amazing.

8. My in laws neighbors recently got two boxer puppies, a boy named Kane and a girl named Casey. When they are old enough they are going to breed them. Me and Wes are super excited because we are going to get one or maybe two of their puppies. We have wanted a boxer for a while and this is our opportunity.

9. I am trying to find a hobby. I want to do something creative. I guess it's time to search the aisles at Michaels and Hobby Lobby.

10. I am so glad it is spring. This winter was sort of rough on me. I really had a bad case of winter blahs. I have been feeling better lately, and I am getting excited about all the upcoming events that are on the way.

Happy Tuesday!!

Indiana...Land of the Hoosiers

We are back from our weekend trip to Indiana. It was fun seeing my dad's family and the few left of my mom's who are still braving those cold winters up there. We got up and left by 5am Friday morning. The weather was in the 60's and kinda cloudy up there. We stayed at my Aunt Diana's house. She has this wonderful, fully restored 108 year old big white house that I love. We spent the afternoon showing Wes around Perrysville, which is the small town my dad grew up in and where my parents first lived when they got married. That night we took him over across the Illinois state line to a ice cream place called the Custard Cup that had the best chocolate milkshake I had ever tasted. Where my parents grew up in Indiana is right next to the Illinois state line. So Wes got to tackle two states he had never been to in one trip :) Saturday we went to Veedersburg, a town about 10 minutes away from Perrysville, and also the town where my mom grew up. There we saw my mom's two sisters who still live in Indiana. We also got to see my cousin Angela. She surprised me with a scrapbook she had made of my wedding. It was really neat. That evening we went back to Perrysville to go to a restaurant called the Beef House with my dad's side of the family. It was sooooo goood and I saw a lot of my cousins that I haven't seen in a while. Overall I think Wes enjoyed his first trip to Indiana. It is a nice place to visit....although I have to say I am super glad my parents decided to make the move to Alabama before I made my appearance into the world. I took a few random interesting shots from the trip.

This is the maximum security prison where Timothy McVay was executed. It is outside Terrahaute Indiana which is on our way to my family's places.

This interesting mural painting giraffe was outside the Beef House. I just thought it was odd that this was where it was.

These two pictures are of a squirrel that was outside at my aunt's house that was eating a corn cob. I just thought it was neat.

I just reread this post and decided it sounds like I am writing a "What I did this trip" paper for an elementary English paper. Oh well :) Happy Monday all!
